China and trading
By admin • Dec 3rd, 2007 • Category: China, Elite, HVB, K-3, Sentiment, Stop Finder, TradingSitting here in a room of Chinese college grads training to learn how to trade equities. Great lesson in labor arbitrage and an interesting business model. Some of these kids are making tons of money relative to their peers in other industries, some are just plain making tons of money by most standards. 400 or so of them in a few rooms - it’s dark outside as it’s like 3am here in Shenyang, they trade US markets so trade through the night. It’s very cold here, we’re about an hour north of Beijing by plane. One thing that struck me getting off the plane was the terrible smell of the air, felt like I was breathing directly out of my car’s exhaust pipe - which clearly wasn’t the case. (I didn’t bring my car with me) Also there is tons of neon lighting all over the large buildings here - very much feels like a cheaper and more spread out version of Vegas, though it’s purely industrial town. They will be hosting some olympic events. Apparently only four months ago the skyline was nearly black according to Ty, and now rainbow light displays cascade down buildings and many are lit up in all different colors and designs, it’s something to see.
Traders: Sentiment gave back a percent, Elite off a couple, and K-3 down over 12% from it’s peak, over 1% more today. HVB a positive day, great to see, I’m still quite confident in that system despite a losing couple weeks, . Stopfinder up a bit to new highs today, really excited about that program, paperwork should be done by Thursday they tell me - so next week is probably realistic.
I need to get some sleep as we traveled about 21 hours to get here after three hours of sleep then went straight to work. Still exciting, travel is great, I love the new experiences. I’m excited to see the city in the daylight and do some exploring, see what all the China hype is about.
